The USAID Southern Africa Trade and Investment Hub is working with Botswana-based Dinesh Textiles to explore potential exports of personal protective equipment (PPE) to the United States. The firm is part of the 14 PPE producing firms in the USAID TradeHub’s pilot program to support firms in four program countries – Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho and South Africa – to produce PPE and supply the USAID TradeHub’s targeted markets in South Africa and the United States. The work with Dinesh Textiles follows a September 8, 2020 meeting with the firm’s Managing Director, who indicated that the firm, which is ISO 9001-certified, has access to its own capital to invest in the PPE production. The USAID TradeHub plans to assist Dinesh Textiles with market leads and indicative pricing. This opportunity could help boost Botswana’s exports to the United States, which has not recorded significant U.S.-bound sales under the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA).
