A USAID Southern Africa Trade and Investment Hub trade promotion service provider (TPSP) based in the United States last week concluded introductions of nine southern African textile and apparel suppliers with three U.S. buyers—Apparel Sourcing International, American Textile and Apparel, and Vishal Enterprise Inc. The buyers represent brands such as Ralph Lauren, U.S Polo, BJ’s Price Club, Chico's, and Diane von Furstenberg. The trade promotion service provider presented the production capacities, certifications, and product offerings of the USAID TradeHub-supported exporters, marking a first step toward facilitating discussions between the market players. By presenting U.S. buyers with alternative countries to consider for sourcing their fabrics and products, the USAID TradeHub aims to raise interest in southern African exporters while paving the way for sustainable trade relationships. This effort is part of the USAID TradeHub’s Objective 3 activities, which seek to leverage AGOA to boost southern African exports to the United States.
