Following support from the USAID Southern Africa Trade and Investment Hub, Meat Corporation (MeatCo) Namibia is preparing to dispatch two orders to the United States by the end of January 2020. The most recent order follows a December 2019 week-long visit from a large U.S. buyer and manufacturer of organic and natural, free-range products for major retailers. MeatCo has been gaining U.S. interest in its 100-percent grass-fed beef since it began exhibiting in the United States with USAID TradeHub support. The company was one of 25 exhibitors under the USAID TradeHub-sponsored Africa Fine Foods Pavilion at the June 2019 Summer Fancy Food Show in New York City. Namibia beef was USDA-approved for export to the United States in September 2016, and beef is one of the USAID TradeHub’s and Namibia’s priority export products for 2020. The beef sector will figure prominently in a forthcoming, USAID TradeHub-developed strategy for Namibia to better utilize incentives offered by the U.S. African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA).
